Hi Andy, the rod and reel has arrived. Thanks for the Fantastic service! If the gear is half as good as the service from Downrigger Shop then I'll be one very happy fisherman.
Cheers, Jim
hi mate,
Just wanted to say thanks for a great product. Managed to get drag washers for a Shimano Calais, Shimano Calcutta te300, Shimano Baitrunner 6500b, Daiwa Certate hyper custom 4000, Daiwa Morethan Branzino 3000, Daiwa Exist Hyper Branzino 2508r and Daiwa Alphas R-Edition from one sheet of carbontex, and I probably had enough left to bust out another washer or two.
champion , thanks very much
Workmanship is excellent and they work well mechanically. I've had nothing but raves and compliments on them. Good money spent IMO. (downrigger)
Mate your jigs smashed it I was belting the other boys 3 to 1 than I had them using them but now there all gone so I will order some later in the week, the other two guys will order some in the next two weeks as well (250g knife jigs)
I tied a few knots in the 50 LB last night very impressed with the knot strength of the line. Allbright broke under a bit of a fair load
vertical node knot (youtube) broke under A LOT of load ( leader wrapped around my foot and braid wrapped around a screwdriver handle and giving it a hell of a time) (PE Braid)
Fisho, Andy always goes well above and beyond in his customer service...
i dont know of any trader/merchant/seller that comes within coooey of his service... if interested go up and meet him check out the gear and im sure you will walk away happy.. pockets a lot lighter but happy cheers...steve....
Smashed them on the block then when the punters got tired went into the banks and got into them there, everyone bagged out on 70/97cm fish within 3 hours so i think i can safely report that they are still there, your pink/purple was the winner for the day and with only two other boats there for the afternoon it was very refreshing. cheers joe (knife jigs)
Ive got one and its the shit.....Andys service was exceptional going out of his way to let me test the product before buying and delivering to my door. (downrigger)
ANDY you are a GEM when i opened the box and seen what was in it i died in the arse i knew it was big but jessuss i said to myself what have i got myself into after getting used to what i was looking at i said bloody ripper now for the rod most likely tomorow a call to richard and off to EDEN we go you will here from me sometime in the future (electric reel)
The new reel was awesome, drop after drop it was unbelievable you couldn't stop it. I was amazed at how easy it is to use and the speed of the retrieve, we had it hooker up to a jump-start battery pack which is pretty small but ended up having plenty of life (electric reel)
Forgot to mention that I was using a $30 saltiga jig, and downrigger shop jigs had landed 3 fish without so much as a touch on the Daiwa. I ended up switching to a pink river to sea that cost $12 to get my first hook up... Might need some stock Andy! (knife jigs)
This fish came up quickly initially, saw the yak & dived to the bottom again, got him back up to the leader knot then all the way down again, then one more time to the top when I grabbed the tail & 85cm of kingfish was on my lap. Thanks to Andy from the CJ, the jig was one of his he gave me as a demo, I'll be buying the set. (knife jigs)
Mate the reel held up awesome, thanks once again, cant beat the sound of that drag it was smooth as silk, took me a couple of minutes to get the kingy off the bottom and then just let the rod/reel do its job!! (HG4000 reel)
Thanks for the braid. I received it on Friday and really impressed with delivery time. I owe u and romano a beer. Love the braid and thanks for the quick delivery once again, looking forward to buying more products of u in the future. (PE braid)
Plenty of triple and quadruple hook ups, and even managed to have everyone, skipper included hooked up and landing fish at the one time... Not sure what you'd call it though there was 5 of us on board.
They werent touching the livies that we had down, which was a bummer because we had a tank full of them. But they were loving the jigs. All were caught on Andy's jigs.
Andy I recieved my line counter a couple of days ago that you sent off very promptly. It is an awsome little tool at a very reasonable price. I was a little skeptical as to how accurate it might be so measured out 50 mtrs with the tape. Fitted the counter to my rod [takes about 1 second] , hooked the line to the fence and walked back to the measured 50 mtrs. I was pleased to read exactly 50 mtrs on the line counter. Then I wound back to the fence and counter had wound back to exactly zero.Fantastic mate. now we know exactly how much line has been taken off the spool to fill the reel and how much is left for the next job. (line counter)
Hi Andrew i would just like to express my personal thanks to you for selliing myself a deep sea electric reel and rod, you are one of the very few people that is able to explain and sell a product exactly how will operate and perform, i also have a shimano tanacom bull 1000 and its only 12 months old, in which I purchased before your rod and reel, shimano do make some great products, but not in this end of the market and not in deep sea electric reels like your product
Adriano keen to test out his new outfit purchased from the downrigger shop (Daiwa Saltiga rod + Daiwa Oceano 4500j). We made our way out and once we arrived we immediate landed some rats 70-75cm. when he saw the size of his fish, the smile from his face was from ear to ear. he landed the biggest of the day at 95cm. at the end of the day we caught ~20 kingies (Saltiga JG-511 and Daiwa 4500J reel)
On the fish I did catch the Seagate did not miss a beat, smooth drag, great retrieve rate and really comfortable to use even after 200 casts although 30lb braid might be over kill (until that hoodlum comes along and smashes me!) but I would recommend this reel to anyone looking for a cheaper reel that doesn't skimp on quality (Daiwa Seagate 3500H)
I have been using jigs from the downrigger shop now for a few years and have found them to be good, price is right so it doesnt break the heart if the punters get jacketted big time
cheers
I'll second the jigs from the downrigger shop. Good quality and price.
I can also vouch for the downrigger shops jigs ,i think there 10 for 70
dollars, shipped, i am also a fan of the river to sea spike jigs,i have bought cheap ebay jigs online and they work but a few have ahad sh*t hooks or crappy cord attaching the hooks ,so if you go the ebay option test the hook rig properly.
mate talk to Andy at the down rigger shop ,as the guys previously have said they are priced very well.
but more importantly they work
give them a go you wont be disappointed, plus andy supports a lot of tournaments up and down the coast which benefits us all
Anyone have any opinions on the braid the Downriggershop is selling. I know they are a site sponsor and on their website they say it's the same as other big name brands braid without the stickers. I'm basically looking to buy some as I'm moving to Brazil this year with the missus and line is through the roof expensive. I'm chasing big catfish and other large species that have some big pulling power, not so much long runs but just a lot of stamina and pulling power. I was thinking of getting some PE 8 and some 200lb line.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Have mates with some 100 lb on their downriggers and I am using some of the yellow 50lb on one of my spin rods and have got no complaints what so ever! Yeah Dave the pricing is pretty good. Think I'll be heading up there next week to get some then.
Thanks for the advice guys.
I have it spooled on about 6 of my reels 30 and 50 lb and 200lb on the downrigger cannot complain about product and price is great. Cheers, Grant - I've got the 80 colour change on my jigging gear. It's good. Perhaps slightly on the thick side, but it's durable and strong and cheap!
I bought a stack of Saltiga jigs a few years ago at $30 a pop, only to have Andy's downrigger shop jigs out fish them every time.
I've also had far better results on tuna from jig size and weight rather than anything else.
I suppose there will be other opinions, but I stopped buying the expensive shiny ones a while ago.
From what I understand a lot of the cheaper ones are copies of the more expensive jigs anyway.
What is it, a lump of lead shaped to be the same with a paint job.
The down rigger shop describes the attributes of their jigs as having the right ingredients of a lumo belly, red eye and weight distribution. And they come in a selection of colours.
When leather jacket take their share, I know I'd rather it a less expensive one.
I wouldnt think about buying the expensive jigs anymore they don't outperform cheaper jigs and only burn a hole in your wallet. We have been catching a stack of fish on the downriggershop jigs in 170m of water and on the 100m reefs. $ for $ there is no comparison.
they had a good mix of boats to look at though. I also caught up with Any from the CJ and had a good chat to him, top bloke and very helpfull. overall the price of admission is cheap and i spent a good 2 hours having a look around.
I didn't mind the show myself, nice mixture of stuff and yeh could have been a bit more fishing gear but only the first show so better things to come hopefully...run into rowan and his young bloke and had a chat and nice to meet and talk to Andy from the downrigger shop...good few hrs
Was good to meet Andy there from the downrigger shop, his gear was the best quality stuff I reckon by far...those big electric 80W's are crazy....if I fished deep sea would love to have one.
yeah I took the young fella over yesterday for a look. Was pretty good for the first year of bring run.
Bumped into TinDonkey, Snafu and met Andy from the downrigger shop. Having never met Andy, I can say he is a great guy!
His knowledge of fishing is awesome and he has some great gear at very
reasonable prices. I'll be dropping in to see him later this week to get some gear. If your thinking about jigging or fishing of any sort, give And a call as he certainly will be my next call for a new reel.
Psycks get the cubes in as soon as you can and have someone dropping a cube in at the same time while you drop the jig in. It does not have to be done instantaneously just as soon as you can, if it is going to happen it could take five or ten minutes.
I use Andy's jigs and have no preference for the colours although I am sure some of the more avid jiggers do.
Hi Andy, the rod and reel has arrived. Thanks for the Fantastic service! If the gear is half as good as the service from Downrigger Shop then I'll be one very happy fisherman.

Andys "Red Rocket" as I have now named it did the damage. First called for a smallish king and putting up a respectable fight the fish was raised, at the side of the boat the net was called. Swoffa almost cried tears of either frustration or disbelief or a combo of both. Andy your jigs can Catch anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was a First for me!!! (250g kife jigs)
Hey Andrew,
I just wanted to let you know the headstart rigs are awesome. I caught this GT out from the keppel islands near Yeppoon.
Ross
I have had one for nearly 12 months mate and I reckon they are bloody great. They as tough as nails and have delivered a great number of Kingies and I'm still learning how to use one properly I reckon. You wont go wrong with one and the after sale service is brilliant (downrigger)

If ya going out,get a heap of Andy's jigs as they are cheap and work great as you can see from my success & plenty of spare line and prey to the fishing gods as its hard out there off sydney and also down the coast from what ive heard.. the 73cm king weighed 4kg and the skinny 83cm 5kg ..
